Etter Mikael Böök sin engelskspråklege versjon av innlegget om IFLA og Gates-stiftinga er vi blitt tipsa om eit bibliotek i Nairobi, Kenya, som fredag kl. 18 norsk tid skal ha ein Zoom-debatt om matpolitikk og genmodifisering (GMO), og der Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation vil vere i skotlinja.
I presentasjonen heiter det: «Some Scientists and multinational corporations like Bayer and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have claimed that GMO is the answer to the crisis of starvation in Africa. This has been contested by activists and peasant farmers who claim that GMOs have
no proven record of reducing hunger, undermine farmers sovereignty to own seeds, control the production process and produce quality food and worse still, have carcinogenic effects that have exacerbated cancer infections and death in Africa».
Biblioteket heiter The Ukombozi Library (ukombozi = frigjering) og er ikkje eit vanleg offentleg bibliotek. Det kallar seg Kenya’s First Socialist Library og har tilknyting til Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung. Utan å vite for mykje om rettstilstandane i Kenya per i dag, vil vi tru dette er ganske barske bibliotekarar.
